ElectricOjos

High-altitude record attempt with a electric production car - powered by Munro

History of ElectricOjos

- right now: preparations for the Munro high-altitude project are on a highly advanced level...

Together with Andreas Fuchs, a triathlon legend from Austria, we did so far two things:

- the 0 to 6893m project, where he started with his bike on the coast of Bahia Inglesa/Chile and drove up to 5200m on the Ojos del Salado. Then he run up together with Martin Mirinsky to the summit on  25. January 2025!

He managed this 350km distance and 7592m difference in altitude duathlon in 3 day's 10:40 hours!

- The  R.A.N./ 2024 a 600km ultra cycling Race Around Niederösterreich, supported by Andreas Scheucher and me. We supported Andreas Fuchs the whole way for the first time ever with a electric car! It went perfect with a Tesla Model Y and one short charging stop!

What are the upcoming goals of ElectricOjos in 2025/26?

Since I am aware of myself my personal main goal in life is to push boundaries!
The goals of the ElectricOjos project's does'nt make a difference!

The upcoming project in December 2025 is a high-altitude record attempt on the Ojos del Salado with a production car from Munro! Munro is a electric offroad car manufacturer from Scotland!

Munro!
The only things we change on the car:
- Tyre's.... we go with 37"x 13,5" R17
- Wheels... Bead locks in 10" x 17
- Winch
- Mountings for spare tyre's and photovoltaic system

The 0 to 6893m Expedition and record attempt combined together with Andreas Fuchs, worked perfect! One of the reasons, we needed both a lot of time at 4500m and above. He needed time for getting back his body strength and I needed time to explore two routs on the west side of the Ojos where we can drive up with a Munro EV in Dezember 2025.

How to pronounce Ojos?
The initial idea for the Munro project is quite old. Back in 2015 I bought one of my favorite electric cars ever! A ECOCARRIER from a gone company called ECOCRAFT! Soon after that, the idea to go high-altitude started to develop!

Years come and go, like Bollinger B1  and others did come and go!

I think in 2022 I heard the first time from a new scotish Company called Munro EV!

2023 I heard the second time from Munro EV when Russel Peterson who foundet the company together with Ross Anderson, presented their first real Prototype and ambitions together with the whole Munro Team!

This was the right time to get in contact and try to explain the ElectricOjos project!
ElectricOjos meets Munro!
The Ojos del Salado is the highest stil active volcano on earth. The Ojos [Ochos] is a strato volcano with gentle slopes on the west side, this is the main reason why there is a big variety of high-altitude records on this specific mountain!

Last season 2024/25 I supported Andreas Fuchs a 4 times triathlon champion in Austria. He started with a Gravelbike at the sea in Bahia Inglesa and drove up to 5200m! After that he run up to the summit at 6893m. This project was called             0 to 6893m!

This upcoming sason 2025/26 together with my team we try to break the high-altitude record for electric cars! For the first time it is possible to try this with a electric production car made by Munro //www.munro-ev.com, a scotish heavy duty electric offroad car manufacturer!

At the moment the high-altitude record for electric cars had been set in December 2023 at a height of 6510m. This record was achieved by the "Peakevolution Team" from Switzerland with a converted Aebi 450 Truck.

Copiapo to Laguna Santa Rosa

We start in Copiapo and on the same day we drive up to a small oasis at 3000m. In this Oasis we spend one night and a day, during this time we recharge the car.

Laguna Santa Rosa to Laguna Verde

At Laguna Santa Rosa we spend a night. From here we drive on a big plateau to get back to the Routa 31, this road brings us up to Laguna Verde.

Laguna Verde to Tejos

The way from Laguna Verde to Tejos needs because of the altitude a couple of intermediate steps... The "road" between Murray and Tejos need at least some kind of "maintenance" work....

Refugio Tejos to maximum height via Refugio Amistad

From Tejos up we need the winch!

Rocky Channel

From Tejos we still have a way up to 5850m. This way up is quite ok for every car which it managed it so far. At 5850m is a small plateau which will be our camp for the last preparations like set up Ankerpoints on some rocks. Or move other rocks. We will need around 3 day's to be ready for this first big key point. We need to bring everything we need, inclusive photovoltaic, water and food for 8 day's with the car. Normally it take's one day to bring the car and equipment up to Amistad 6100m.

record attempt slope with snow

Here you can see 3 different route's up to Polacos 2. The RED route is the most possible to try, because there should be some ankerpoints for the winch. And maybe not even need a winch on the last meters.... The GREEN route is a alternative if we find proper ankerpoints for the Winch.. The BLUE route end's short before 6700m....

Ojos.... is a part of Ojos del Salado, the highest Volcano on earth. Ojos del Salado is Spanish and means "Eye of the salty". The Ojos del Salado is on the border between Chile and Argentina in the middle of the Atacama desert. The Ojos del Salado is a stratovolcano with different crater's. The Ojos is still active and you can see in some area's fumaroles. The Ojos had the last powerful eruption 1300 years ago.
Electric... just describes which propulsion and short time energy storage systems I prefer for now and the future! Combined with Solar and Wind = Match in Heaven!
0 to 6893m by Andreas Fuchs
First we met in the legendary "Gartensauna" at Therme  Bad Waltersdorf in 2019!
I'm not really shy when I'm naked and I speak a lot about electric cars, also in our Sauna!

Andreas Fuchs is a thriathlon legend, ultra-athlete and also a early electric car adopter. Check out his Wikipedia page.... you would'nt beliefe!
So there was no way around to speak from time to time about electric car's and the ElectricOjos project!

In 2022 when I came back from the Ojos del Salado in the middle of the Atacama desert in Chile, we met again in the Sauna and he came up with a Idea! His plan was to cycle from the pacific coast with a gravel bike up to the heighest possible point and run from there up to 6893m, the summit of the Ojos del Salado!

So we decided after 3 years to meet each other for the first time with cloths in the real world and try to form a team for preparations, training and later for the project!

That is the reason why he took part at the Race Around Niederösterreich R.A.N. 2024, a 600km Ultra-Cycling race.

For me it was a perfect chance to learn together with Andreas Scheucher, our second supporter at this race, how to support a Ultra-Athlete for 20 hours and 3 min to race to the 3rd place in his class!
He and me didn't want to try this for the first time in the Atacama desert....

And we have been the first team in Austria to support a ultra-cyclist with a electric car for the whole race! With 15min charge time after arond 300km and with 128 Wh/km in avarage.

Sorry, registration has ended.

In May 2024, we had been the first one's (at least in Austria) to support a ultra-athlete the whole race with a electric car!Read More
